Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag 2018!

Now, I wasn't exactly tagged for this
because I have no friends (please be my friend), but I'm gonna do it anyway because it looks like fun. I also realise it's kinda over halfway through the year already, but we're gonna ignore that and just keep going.

I also wanted to do this tag because I saw it first on some YouTube videos on and a few blogs, and thought it was kind of interesting, and if it’s not, at least it will be a good way for me to track what I’ve read this year. I have changed mine up slightly, so I have dodged a few questions, but that's okay.

1. The Best Book You've Read in 2018

I can't decide between the two! Easily my two favourites so far however, both carry such great messages and you experience such highs and lows with both. They are definitely books I would recommend to anyone.

2. Best Sequel You’ve Read This Year

Ha, so fun fact, I selected 50 books as my goodreads target this year and I'm at 20... So that's not great. So, I'm kinda cheating as technically I haven't read this yet but I am reading it currently so that works right? I just had to pick this because the only other sequel I've read is Ice Like Fire and that was a disappointment; this is not yet, but I'm only 50 pages in....

3. A New Release You Haven't Read Yet But You're DYING To

THERE ARE SO MANY, it's a first world struggle guys. But honestly, I think it has to be A Court of Frost and Starlight. The ACOWAR trilogy is one of my favourites, and the fact I haven't read or even bought this yet is killing me (who else is loving that saving up for uni life - I'm not!)

4. Most Anticipated Release Still To Come

I know this is the most typical YA reader response ever but I don't care. I'm so excited for this book (even though I STILL haven't read Tower of Dawn, which I will I promise). I'm so excited to dive back into this world and the characters, I just love this story so much. I also love this series because we can see Sarah's progress as a writer through it and it's just a beautiful author arc.

5. Your Biggest Disappointment

Honourable Mention: The Thousandth Floor - what the fuck was that incest-monstrosity?

6. The Biggest Surprise So Far

Now I know this sounds stupid because it's by Jodi Piccoult but I honestly didn't expect to love this book that much, especially since it's not one of her most talked about. I don't know why this isn't talked about more because I loved every minute of reading this book.

7. Favourite Debut/New to You Author

I think this has to go V. E. Schwab, who I know has been killing the game for a while, but she's new to me and she's brilliant.

8. New Favourite Fictional Romance

So this was meant to be new fictional crush but I don't really get book crushes so instead I'm turning it into my favourite romance. That has got to go to Jamie and Tad from Superior who so far have been the only romantic relationship I really appreciate. Don't get me wrong, there's been a few good ones but some have been absolute shite..

9. NewFavourite Character

HOW AM I MEANT TO PICK. I love my characters, that's what I love in books. If I absolutely had to narrow it down to my top three it would have to be Lira from To Kill A Kingdom (honestly what a babe), and Kell and Lila from A Darker Shade of Magic because they're both such amazing characters and I love them (especially Lila).

10. Book(s) That Made You Cry

There's been a few books this year that have made me cry. I definitely cried reading A Way Out, and I think I shed a couple of tears when reading Nowhere Girls. What a shock that two of my favourites of the year are also two that made me really emotional.

11. Book That Made You Smile

I've got so much love for this book still after all these years.

12. Favourite Movie

Now, I haven't watched any adaptations this year other than Wonder, and that doesn't count for me as I haven't read the book yet. Therefore, I'm changing this to favourite movie and that has to be either Infinity War (shock) or .........., both of which I loved - and before all y'all judge me I can't judge good movies from bad movies so be kind, I just like them if they're fun.

13. Favourite Blog Post of the Year So Far

lol, nope, not doing this, they're all garbage

14. The Most Beautiful Book You've Bought This Year

Gemina, without a doubt is stunning.

15. What Do You Need to Read Before The End of The Year

Other than what I've already mentioned and the rest of the Darker Shade of Magic trilogy, all of these need to be read for sure.

  3. Hey, I really like your post. Who cares if you weren't tagged as long as you had fun writing it. I can't believe you still want to read a Court of Frost and Starlight though. I read the reviews on GR and just gave up.
