1. The End of The F****** World on Netflix
|
SO PRECIOUS |
LOVE THIS. Oh my god guys this is the perfect tv show for anyone with British or just generally quite dark humour. I loved the character introduced to us - they're not your ordinary teen TV show characters, and they both the protagonists - Alyssa and James have such great character arcs and I love it. Neither are them are your cookie-cutter characters and the way in which we get to see them unravel and how the show peels back their layers is genius. The actors themselves are incredible, and they are definitely two I will be watching from now on because they had brilliant performances in this. The ending as well is something else, and I have had arguments with people about what actually happened, it's open in a way that's not frustrating and that's really great. Also, the great thing about this is that you can binge this so quickly - the episodes are short and there is only eight of them
2. Salvation on Netflix

Also check out this hot piece of ass

Now, I'm going to be honest I don't think this is a very good TV Show, but I found it entertaining on a kind of geeky level. Salvation follows several Americans as they race to save the Earth from an extinction level asteroid whilst navigating the very tough water of foreign diplomacy. The show explores different methods in trying to stop the asteroid and how this can be complicated by - you guessed it, the American Government. By incorporating politics into the narrative Salvation explores the humanity of current society against deadly backdrop, and whilst not being the most well produced show ever it's entertaining.
3. Travelers on Netflix
|
This is not Grace but they're still lovely
|
Okay again this isn't probably a very good show in terms of quality but I still love it a lot. Unlike the other shows listed here this has two seasons and I love both of them a lot. Travelers focuses time travels from an apocalyptic future who have time traveled backwards in time to try and change the course of events of human history, and therefore try to save the world. This show has a great set of characters who all have their own struggles and character arcs, and the plot is really interesting as the timeline keeps being impacted by changes made in the past meaning the travelers are often just as clueless as we are about the future. I think this show can be very difficult to get into, but I also think the dynamics of time you'll find in this is unlike anything else. ALSO I almost forget to mention Grace, everyone should watch it just for Grace.
4. Life and Death Row: The Mass Execution on BBC
|
The Land of the Free (as long as you're white) |
Damn, this is not a lighthearted one guys. This series is made up of four episodes that follow eight criminals on death row in Arkansas and it's one of the most interesting things I've ever watched. After growing up in the UK and just being who I am, I don't believe in the death penalty as a form of justice, but I can understand why people do - doesn't mean I agree with it. BUT saying that, this series follows eight men who have been sentenced to death in Arkansas within eight days of each other, and the Governor insists it's because it's their time, but the interesting twist is one of the drugs they use in the lethal injection - Midazolam is reaching it's expiry date. Now I really can't understand why anyone would be okay with this, this drug is reaching it's expiry date because it's a bit controversial and hasn't worked well as an anesthetic in the past, it's led to botched executions - so the fact that anyone is okay with killing men because a drug is going out of date blows my fucking mind. This is a really interesting series as not only does it cover this side, but also looks into the criminals individually.
So, if you're looking for anything a little less light and something that will leave you baffled hit this one up.
5.. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon Prime
|
I'm not going to give you a gif of the jokes, go watch it yourself. |
Oh gosh little precious Midge. This is one emotional rollercoaster that'll have you laughing along with the crowds people. This is set in 1950s New York and follows a women - Midge, whose husband has just recently left her for her secretary,
Penny Pan. Now that doesn't sound that great, but it is. The plot follows Midge as she goes into stand up comedy, relating the stories of her life and what she experiences and it's laugh out loud funny. It's daring, emotional and just really amusing. Not to mention every character you meet has their own personality and quirks and it's hard to dislike any of them - except Joe, Joe can go fuck himself.
