Top Ten Tuesday: Books On My TBR I'm Scared of Picking Up

Hey guys! Today I decided to partake in this week's Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl. TTT is something I want to try doing on this blog, but I won't promise to do it every week, especially if there's not a topic I enjoy!

1. The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

I absolutely loved the first two books in The Bone Season series, and unfortunately I haven't got round to reading the third yet, but I still think it's going to be a great series. So when I found out Samantha Shannon was coming out with a new book I jumped at the chance to buy it, however I didn't realise how long it was - my hardcover copy has 804 pages. I am absolutely terrified of picking it up, how am I meant to read a book with 804 pages? What if I hate it after spending all that money on it? But I know that's ridiculous, going off of the synopsis and ratings on goodreads I should love this! And I really enjoying Shannon's writing style so what's there not to love? I think I'm just scared of the commitment - now I understand my exes.

2. Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas

It's a crime I haven't read this yet - it came out last October, that's so long ago! And I still just can't bring myself to pick this up. The awful thing is I know why and it's such a dumb reason. I love this series, and I think it's such a great example of how an author's writing can improve throughout a series, because lets be real, the difference in quality between Throne of Glass and Empire of Storms is ridiculous. But I don't want it to end, and once I read it it'll end - which is dumb because I really want to know what happens. As well as that, it's been so long since I read the series I know I'm going to have to re-read them all and that's going to take forever

3. The Testaments by Margaret Atwood

I enjoyed 'The Handmaids Tale', as did nearly everyone else. However, I found it to be a difficult read. I don't think it's the kind of book you can fly through really easily because of the subject matter, it's harrowing and difficult because that's what these women's lives were like. I'm scared this sequel will also be like that, and it should be, considering it's based on three female narrator's testaments of Gilead. I'm also scared to pick this up because I'm currently on season 2 of the TV show and I'm worried if this isn't done well (unlikely, because it's Margaret fucking Atwood) that I might just dismiss the book completely. However, I know I will eventually read this, I have to read this - I am fascinated by Gilead and the rest of the world in this book; it may be a while until I pick it up however as I really want to read 'The Handmaids Tale' again.

4. Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson

I picked this up really recently so it's fairly new to my TBR, but I've heard so many good things about this author and I'm in a real fantasy mood at the moment, so it was only natural I spent my money like this. Yet, I am scared to pick this up. I'm scared because of the length, which is sitting pretty at 652 pages in paperback form; but I'm also scared because I think I'm going to love it. And if I love it, I'm going to want to read everything else by him, and that's scary for my bank account.

5. Little Women by Louise May Alcott

I know so many people who love this book, and they all have so many great things to say about it. I do really want to read it, I'm just scared because I don't have a brilliant track record with loving classics. It's why I don't pick up the Brontë sisters or Jane Austen very often, and I didn't have a great experience with 'Wuthering Heights', I'm not sure if I missed something huge with that book but it really did nothing for me. That's why I'm scared of this one - I don't want to hate it, but I fear I will.

I know that's not ten books but those are the ones that came to mind for me! What about you guys, have you got any TBR books you're scared to pick up?

  4. Hah, two blogs in a row had The Priory of the Orange Tree listed first. Also, your reasoning right there is why I waited for it to go on sale for $1.99 in ebook. :)

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
