Shadowhunters: Episode #1 (The Mortal Cup) Review

Image
I'm confused, I'm so confused by this episode. Some of the things that they added in and changed just don't fit with the whole theme of the show, and other parts like Simon and others worked really well. Yet, I'm disappointed with this episode, and I'm worried about what's going to happen with series as it moves forward. Also, where is the theme song? I did not hear a theme song and it has so much potential for such a great theme song. So there's a lot of things they've added into the plot that just don't make sense. First of all, Jocelyn gave Clary a stele for her 18th birthday, and this is the Jocelyn that doesn't want her to be involved with the Shadowhunters and she gives her a stele; how does that even work?! And then there's this new necklace which Jocelyn gives Clary (what is up with mother giving her daughter weird stuff?), and it allows Clary to see her mother when she thinks of her - I'm very worried about where they're go

The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo

Hey! So today, instead of splitting this up into three reviews I'm going to review all three books in this trilogy on one post, and obviously, there are spoilers ahead so watch out. Shadow and Bone: So this is the first book in the trilogy and it involves a lot of spectacular world building, honestly I was immersed in this world and the war they facing and with magic. Also, despite all this world building and introductions to new and strange beings and plots and ideas, I never once got confused or was desperately trying to catch up with the characters - Baradugo was completely in control. We're also introduced to several brilliant characters in this book including The Darkling, Mal and Alina whom creats a beautiful love triangle which isn't your traditional YA love triangle, so please don't let this discourage because Mal and Alina's romance is so much more. My one annoyance is that they're portrayed as best friends who fall in love, but that's jus

The Glass Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg (The Paper Magician #2)

Look I read the next one, and quickly as well, and I loved it just as much and for once I'm saying the sequel was actually better than the first book. This doesn't mean, Ceony didn't annoy me a little bit - she did, but I think it adds to the charm of the book. After three months from returning from Emery Thane's heart Ceony has continued to train to become a Folder. However, Ceony can't completely focus on her studies with doubts surrounding Lira's fate, and the promised romance she saw with Emery in a fortuity box. When Grath, the most wanted magician in England, starts questioning and threatening Ceony to learn about the secrets of magic he believes she possesses Ceony must push the limits of her powers and protect her discovery at all costs. So I really enjoyed the plot surrounding this book, even if it was started in such a stupid manner by Ceony who basically seems to believe she's invincible. The idea of a magician hunting her down because he beli

The Paper Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg (The Paper Magician Trilogy #1)

Okay so I was scrolling through the goodreads reviews on this after finishing on it, and so many people gave this book below three stars, and I just don't get it, why would you do that? I mean it's not the best book I've ever read but I still love it, and I just don't get why people don't. The Paper Magician focuses on Ceony Twill who has just earned a magicians apprenticeship after graduating first in her class, and is now going to train under Magician Emery Thane, a paper magician, crushing her dreams of manipulating metal with magic. Under Magicians Thane's guidance Ceony learns how to animate paper animals, bring stories to life with ghostly images and even read fortunes. She also learns of the forbidden magic of manipulating humans, their blood and flesh.  When an Excisioner - a user of the forbidden magic breaks into Thane's home, taking the one thing crucial to his survival, Ceony embarks on an adventure to save her teacher.  So I bought this

2016 Book Resolutions

One of the books I've read this year I'm not one for new year's resolutions usually, but I thought it would be good to finally make one about books this year - and just books. Okay, so my first resolution for this year is 50 books, so just under one less per week - which is realistic for me considering I'm an AS student who travels to and from school for a total of 3 hours everyday. I'v already started pretty well on this goal and I have already read two books (woooooo 4% completed). So the next resolution for me is to finally start and finish some amazing series, and the two I have decided I definitely need to start and finish this year are The Percy Jackson series (I know, I'm sorry I haven't read them yet) and the Gone series by Michael Grant. I feel in love with Gone when I was 14 and I borrowed it from my school's library, so over the last few years I've been collecting these books when I can afford to - I now only need Fear and Plague t
