Book's Description: When V’s life crumbles around her, she has two options: let it take her down with it or dive straight in. Virginia “V” Dunn is alone when her dog is hit by a car. Lucky’s back leg is shattered, and when she comforts him, his blood is wet on her hands. Suddenly, the monotony of V’s suburban life dissolves: Lucky is in a cast; her best friend, Eileen, is avoiding her; her mother’s drinking is getting worse; and her father is sick with a mysterious illness. Although V is surrounded by family, she is the loneliest girl in town. As V begins to question everything—death, friendship, family, betrayal—she finds there are few easy answers. The people she thought she knew are strangers, and life’s meaning eludes her. Into this mystery walks the captivating Jane, and V soon realizes that the only way forward seems to break every rule, and go beyond all limitations. Excerpt: Sometimes the night never ends; it just breaks into light and we pretend. I am a...

Bookcase Update #1 (New bookcase)

Image
Hey, I know I haven't blogged in a long time but my life has been a series of up and downs recently, and I hadn't been able to find the time. So I apologise for that. So, a couple of weekends ago, I got a new bookcase as a surprise which was really nice as mine was overflowing, and was way too overcrowded. I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested in how I decided to go about rearranging the two, but I usually am when people talk about their's, and it would be kinda cool for me to post on here and see how my bookshelves develop over time. So, if you want to ignore this feel free, but I'm going to use it to keep track of my bookcases over time. This is what my bookcases originally looked like after we finally finished building the second one (and yes, I now it's annoying that they're not the same height or colour - believe me, I know .) This hot mess was awful, the white bookcase had two rows per bookshelf filled with books and was still overflowing, ...

Liebster Awards 2016

So, I was tagged to do this cool little thing by  http://reviewingdreamer.blogspot.co.uk/ and http://swissbookworm.blogspot.ch/  I want to say a big thank you to those two cool beans (and that you should all check them out) Swissbookworm: 1. Which book inspires you? I'll Give you The Sun by Jandy Nelson inspired me to create or change something. 2. What book have you thrown (or felt like throwing) against a wall because of the ending?  I'm pretty sure I threw 'My Sister Lives on The Mantelpiece' onto the floor once, and then proceeded to cry for the next hour. Good times. (credit to:  siminiblocker.tumblr.com ) 3. Do you have an author whose books you have all in possession just because they're his/hers? I'm currently trying to collect of Michael Grant's books and Sir Arthur Conan Doyles', because Sherlock is just the best thing. 4. Who's your favourite book couple/relationship? Simon and Baz, no one else can compete wit...

The Master Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg (The Paper Magician #3) ~ AND A VERY BIG SORRY

Image
Hey! I know it's been a while since I last posted on here, and I'm sorry about that. My mum has been in hospital recently so everything has been a little hectic (she's okay now by the way), and I've had lots of mocks to revise for at the same time, so that's why I haven't posted in ages (so apologies for that). So a while ago, whilst that was all going on I just about had time to finish The Paper Magician series, and guys, Ceony gets even more stupid in this one. Throughout her studies, Ceony has kept a dangerous secret from the rest of the magic world including her mentor and partner, Emery Thane, that could change the magic world. She's discovered how to break magic bonds with her chosen material, and how to make new ones with others - something that is still seen as impossible. During the last months of her apprenticeship Ceony is sent to away from Emery and to a new Folder following rumours, and suspicions of favouritism. Sirij, a power-hungry crimina...

Shadowhunters: Episode #1 (The Mortal Cup) Review

Image
I'm confused, I'm so confused by this episode. Some of the things that they added in and changed just don't fit with the whole theme of the show, and other parts like Simon and others worked really well. Yet, I'm disappointed with this episode, and I'm worried about what's going to happen with series as it moves forward. Also, where is the theme song? I did not hear a theme song and it has so much potential for such a great theme song. So there's a lot of things they've added into the plot that just don't make sense. First of all, Jocelyn gave Clary a stele for her 18th birthday, and this is the Jocelyn that doesn't want her to be involved with the Shadowhunters and she gives her a stele; how does that even work?! And then there's this new necklace which Jocelyn gives Clary (what is up with mother giving her daughter weird stuff?), and it allows Clary to see her mother when she thinks of her - I'm very worried about where they're go...

The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo

Image
Hey! So today, instead of splitting this up into three reviews I'm going to review all three books in this trilogy on one post, and obviously, there are spoilers ahead so watch out. Shadow and Bone: So this is the first book in the trilogy and it involves a lot of spectacular world building, honestly I was immersed in this world and the war they facing and with magic. Also, despite all this world building and introductions to new and strange beings and plots and ideas, I never once got confused or was desperately trying to catch up with the characters - Baradugo was completely in control. We're also introduced to several brilliant characters in this book including The Darkling, Mal and Alina whom creats a beautiful love triangle which isn't your traditional YA love triangle, so please don't let this discourage because Mal and Alina's romance is so much more. My one annoyance is that they're portrayed as best friends who fall in love, but that's jus...

The Glass Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg (The Paper Magician #2)

Image
Look I read the next one, and quickly as well, and I loved it just as much and for once I'm saying the sequel was actually better than the first book. This doesn't mean, Ceony didn't annoy me a little bit - she did, but I think it adds to the charm of the book. After three months from returning from Emery Thane's heart Ceony has continued to train to become a Folder. However, Ceony can't completely focus on her studies with doubts surrounding Lira's fate, and the promised romance she saw with Emery in a fortuity box. When Grath, the most wanted magician in England, starts questioning and threatening Ceony to learn about the secrets of magic he believes she possesses Ceony must push the limits of her powers and protect her discovery at all costs. So I really enjoyed the plot surrounding this book, even if it was started in such a stupid manner by Ceony who basically seems to believe she's invincible. The idea of a magician hunting her down because he beli...
